Haywood MB

Shop Local, it’s a pretty good philosophy to live by. Unfortunately there are no golf club builders in my town, but I did discover this Canadian company a few years ago. I can’t remember exactly how I came across them, although I’d bet it was YouTube. After a lot more research, and a thorough examination of their website I was extremely intrigued.

For better or for worse I’m an MB player. There is nothing quite like the strike on the sweet spot from a set of muscle backs, and quite frankly, I like how they look. I’ve had a couple of sets over the years, but being left handed severely reduces the options in the market. So when I saw these available in left hand, I rushed to make a purchase.

When I say I rushed, I did it at my pace. When I initially found them I knew I would buy them at some point, but I had to get a few things off my mind first. Around the same time I found the MPF (Maltby Playability Factor) and boy, did I go down the rabbit hole. Unfortunately these were not on the list, so my first step was to track down a different set of irons.

Fast forward a year and a half and I was finally ready to take the plunge. I made the purchase this spring and haven’t looked back. There are no excuses built into these masterpieces. They communicate all of the greatness and weakness that you are.

Looks

They have a very classic design in terms of shape, offset and top line. They are a bit more round in the toe and straight on top than other designs in the market. They have a clean look with basic white paint fill and very little else. Looking down on them I would say they are a medium size MB.

Feel

Overall they feel great, you know exactly where you struck the ball on the face. It’s a little bit harder feel than some other similar clubs I’ve had, but I don’t mind it.

Performance

This is where these irons shine. They do exactly what I want them to. I have confidence that when I make a good swing, the ball will end up near the target and often right on target.

I am so glad I made the purchase and won’t be shopping for new irons anytime soon. I’m actually looking at the other offerings from Haywood, in particular the wedges. If you’re in the market for new clubs, I would definitely have a look through their catalog. They are putting out some great gear in the ever expanding golf market.
